The BRHS Graduate Nurse Programs have been designed to provide a valuable and varied experience for newly qualified nurses embarking on the first twelve months of their role as a Registered Nurse.
The goal at BRHS is for the graduate to acquire experience and knowledge within a supportive environment, enabling them to become a competent, confident, accountable and professional health care practitioner.
The aim of our program is to equip the graduate nurse with the skills and confidence to successfully initiate known theory with practice within the health care setting. The graduate nurse will be encouraged to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills throughout the program and into their professional careers.
In 2019, BRHS will be offering two types of Graduate Nurse Programs:
BRHS Graduate Nurse Program:
This program is specific to BRHS and provides the graduate nurse the opportunity to consolidate practice in various areas in the clinical setting. The 12 month program consists of 2 x 6 month rotational positions throughout the hospital, at 0.8 eft each. Prior to the program, participants will be given the opportunity to indicate their ward preference for the program. They can choose from areas such as: Medical/Surgical, Aged Care, Rehabilitation, Dialysis, Paediatrics, Emergency, Midwifery and Theatre.

East Gippsland Collaborative Graduate Nurse Program:
This program involves a partnership between BRHS and a local primary care provider and provides the graduate nurse the opportunity to consolidate practice in various areas including both clinical and community settings. The 12 month program consists of 1 x 6 month rotation in the hospital and 1 x 6 month rotation at a primary care setting, at 0.8 eft each. Prior to the program, participants will be given the opportunity to indicate their preference for the primary care setting they would like to experience. They can choose from either Gippsland Lakes Community Health (GLCH) or East Gippsland Aboriginal Health Centre (GEGAC).

How to Apply:
To apply for a position in either Graduate Nurse Program, you must participate in the Victorian Nursing Computer Match managed by the Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV) and also submit your application directly to BRHS.
PMCV Process: For details on how to participate in the computer match, please contact PMCV directly on either (03) 9419 1217, firstname.lastname@example.org or visit http://computermatching.pmcv.com.au . When applying through the PMCV website it is important that you select the specific BRHS Graduate Nurse Program as your preferred hospital.
BRHS Process: Applications for the 2019 program will open 0n 5th June 2018 and close on 20th July 2018. Applications are to be submitted directly to BRHS. This includes uploading your application electronically via the preferred Graduate Nurse Program vacancy on the current vacancy page of our website and also posting a hard copy of your application to:

Applications are to include:
- A letter of application outlining the reasons why the graduate wishes to undertake a graduate year at BRHS and/or Gippsland Lakes Community Health (GLCH) or Gippsland & East Gippsland Aboriginal Health Centre (GEGAC).
- Responses to the key selection criteria
- Resume (with a photo attached)
- Certified Academic Transcripts
- Certified copies of your last 2 clinical appraisals (one must be 3rd year)
- Name and contact details of two clinical referees.
