Graduate & Student Programs
 
BRHS acknowledges a commitment to the ongoing development of the health workforce through our graduate and student programs which contribute to the workforce requirements of the East Gippsland Region as well as BRHS.
 
We currently partner with RMIT and Monash University for Division 1 and 2 Nurse undergraduate and post graduate training in particular areas. We also support the development of our upcoming doctors through our intern program.
 
Student placements for undergraduates are provided in nursing, medical imaging and allied health disciplines in partnership with the universities to support the development of our health professionals and provide exposure to the benefits of working in the rural setting.
 
Graduate Nurse Program
 
The Graduate Nurse Program is designed for first year registered nurses and provides a supportive environment for the consolidation and further development of knowledge and skills, preparing you for future career opportunities.
 
To apply for a position you must participate in the Victorian Nursing Computer Match and you must ensure that you select the Graduate Nurse Program, through the Computer Matching Service.

Salary Packaging
 
BRHS offers salary packaging to all full and part time staff allowing them to direct pre-tax income towards benefits to reduce their PAYG (Pay As You Go) tax and increase their disposable income.
 
We offer various types of packaging including:
  •  Reportable Benefit of $9095.00 per FBT year utilised for expenses such as loan repayments, school tuition, HECS/HELP, Credit card reimbursements.
  •  Meal and Entertainment.
  • Superannuation.
  • Remote Housing – 50% of rent or mortgage interest and utilities can be claimed pre-tax.
Work Experience
 
Our work experience program provides students with the opportunity to gain insight into the health care industry.
 
The program is offered to students undertaking years 10-12 within East Gippsland to spend one week working within available departments to observe and participate in the daily activities of those departments.
 
Each year we receive more requests than we have placements available, so we are unable to guarantee a place to all applicants.

Indigenous Employment
 
BRHS participated in the Wangan Nalu Project in 2006/07 and in signing the Shared Partnership Agreement demonstrated a commitment to increasing Indigenous employment in the region. A Koori Health Engagement Plan was developed and includes a focus on greater indigenous employment opportunities.
 
BRHS has established indigenous specific traineeships through programs such as CDEP or STEP and work in partnership with the local job networks. We also provide student information and tours by appointment.
 
Disability Employment Support
 
BRHS supports local disability support services with work placements for their clients. The clients are provided support and work experience to assist them in gaining permanent employment. We are proud of the fact that a number of people have successfully gained further employment within our health service.
