It was our great honor this week to hang in the hospital an item that will long inspire us to remember the wonderful contribution made by many volunteers to the ongoing operation of this health service.

The Bower Birds’ is a fundraising group that was formed in 1982 to help fund the purchase of equipment for the Bairnsdale Regional Health Service. For the past 13 years they have partnered with the Rotary Club of Bairnsdale’s annual golf day to provide critical support for the operation of the hospital.

Last year this terrific group of local ladies received the rare honour of the Paul Harris Fellowship, which recognises service above self to both Rotary and the local community.

The Paul Harris Fellowship is typically awarded to an individual. But such has been the collective impact of the Bower Birds, the Rotary Club of Bairnsdale felt compelled to recognise their tremendous contribution.

That Paul Harris Fellowship plaque, including the fellowship medal and badge, now takes pride of place in the Bower Bird room near the Tambo Ward at BRHS.

Many thanks to all the people that have been members of the Bower Birds, for your much-appreciated support of the hospital and the Bairnsdale community!
