BRHS’ Emergency Department is being heralded this week for its teamwork, commitment and high quality service during a marked spike in the number of people needing treatment.

More than 20,300 people have presented to the ED in the past 12 months, at a daily average of about 56 patients per day.

This week, that number has spiked, with 75, 80 and 75 patients presenting to the ED on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday respectively.

“I am grateful for everyone’s extraordinary effort, and feel very proud to be part of the ED team.”

“This is an enormous surge, and the response from everyone in the ED has been outstanding,” says Dr. Lindy Washington, BRHS’ Deputy Director Medical Services and Senior Emergency Doctor. “Everyone has worked hard and shown respect, patience and great team support.”

The increased workload has done nothing to reduce the excellent quality of care, with a number of patients providing positive feedback on their experience in ED and thanking staff for their kindness, diligence and hard work.

“I am grateful for everyone’s extraordinary effort, and feel very proud to be part of the ED team,” Dr. Washington said.

Well done to everyone working in the ED, and thank you for your stellar commitment to our patients and the community.
