There can certainly be no morning tea lovely enough, or no cake delicious enough, to adequately thank the nurses and midwives of the world for the amazing work they do.
But a lovely morning tea and a delicious cake certainly doesn’t hurt! So that’s what we did for our nurses and midwives today to recognise International Midwives Day and International Nurses Day, May 5 and 12 respectively.
International Nurses Day marks the birthday of Florence Nightingale, regarded as the founder of modern nursing.
Director of Clinical Operations Bernadette Hammond, herself an RN, read a quote by Florence Nightingale at the morning tea today:
“I think one’s feelings waste themselves in words; they ought all to be distilled into actions which bring results.”
We are all forever indebted to their skill and passion of nurses and midwives, and their commitment to doing a difficult and demanding job.
Over the past week or so many of you responded to our appreciation campaign to offer your own words of thanks and praise to nurses and midwives. The outpouring of appreciation was wonderful to see, and very much appreciated by the nurses and midwives here at BRHS!
Here’s just a few of the many comments we received:
“I have the utmost respect for you all. A very stressful role with high expectations from both patients and management. Take good care of yourselves and enjoy your work breaks.”
“I am very proud of all doctors and nurses, and I think you all do a excellent job. Some people don’t appreciate the work that you all do but I am not one of them. I am very proud of you all, keep up the good work.”
“This is for the compassionate, caring, empathetic nurses in aged care. They are a truly amazing group who give so much of themselves to ensure excellent care is provided for their residents.”
“To the whole midwives team! You ladies are amazing – my care last month was everything you want and need during your pregnancy. I think I met every midwife Bairnsdale has to offer and each one made me feel safe, heard and cared for. Bairnsdale is lucky to have such an awesome team. Thank you!”
“Nurses have helped me many times, in fact I often wish I was a nurse! To all the nurses and midwives at BRHS, thank you for your hard work every day.”
“I had a recent stay in BRHS and found the facility both pleasant and service was of very high standard. Thank you to all staff. The care and diligent behavior was of very high standard. Thank you so much for a great team effort.”
“…thank you, thank you, thank you. A big thank you to all the midwives, you do a fantastic job under so much pressure.”
Many thanks to everyone who took a few minutes to say thank you to nurses and midwives everywhere!
