Free help and information sessions - Monday, Nov. 25 and Monday, Dec. 2.
People diagnosed with cancer and their friends and family are encouraged to attend a free help and information session at Bairnsdale Regional Health Service on Monday, Nov. 25 and Monday, Dec. 2. Cancer Council Victoria’s Living with Cancer Education Program is run by local health professionals, and covers topics such as dealing with treatment and side effects, learning how to relax and manage stress, exercise and nutrition, getting the most out of your healthcare team, and communicating with family, friends and colleagues. These practical sessions are run by experts in a relaxed and comfortable environment, and have proven extremely beneficial for people with cancer as well as those supporting them, and provide an opportunity for local people to connect with other people in their community undergoing a similar experience.

Planned Activity Groups
Planned Activity Group get-togethers provide a friendly place to share a meal, catch up with friends or make new ones, and enjoy a range of activities that can assist with better health and wellbeing. They can also serve as a valuable respite for carers. BRHS organises Planned Activity Groups in Bairnsdale, Buchan, Lindenow, Metung and Paynesville, and our staff can assist you if you need help with transportation. Older people living within the community, or people of any age living with a disability are encouraged to attend. The cost is $14 – $18 per day, which includes lunch and afternoon tea.
Carer Support Group
The Bairnsdale Regional Health Service (BRHS) is launching a Carer Support Group for anyone that provides full or part-time care for someone with health issues or a disability. The Carer Support Group will provide a welcoming, safe space for carers to come and discuss any issues that are bothering them, to seek information from health professionals and other carers, or just to meet and talk with other people in the local community facing similar challenges. It is free and open to anyone.
Out and About Club
The Bairnsdale Regional Health Service (BRHS) invites anyone looking to socialise, meet new friends and discover new places around the area to join its Out and About Club at one of their regular outings. Organised by staff at BRHS’ Ross Street Campus, the Out and About Club is a fun way of keeping in touch with friends or meeting new ones. The Out and About Club meets each Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and decides as a group how and where they want to spend their day. Excursions have included art galleries, antique shops, museums, shopping centres and scenic areas in many places throughout the region including Dargo, Marlo, Lakes Entrance, Orbost, Sale, Maffra and Briagolong.
Volunteer at BRHS
More than 250 locals currently give their time and talents to BRHS, undertaking all sorts of tasks, including providing transportation services and helping patients and visitors get around the hospital, raising funds for vital equipment, and helping our facilities team. Their contributions cannot be overestimated, and we are forever grateful for the investment of time and energy they make every day to BRHS. We are currently looking for new people that might be interested in volunteering with us. There is a range of volunteer roles available, depending on your skills and interests. If you’ve got a passion for your community, love to meet people, and are ready for a new experience, think about volunteering at BRHS.
