It’s not news to anyone that childhood obesity is fast becoming one of the most urgent public health issues of our time.
We want all concerned local parents, health professionals and community members interested in the issue of childhood obesity to contribute their ideas about how we can start to win the battle.
In Victoria, new data tells us that almost 1 in 3 children are now overweight or obese, and childhood rates of overweight and obesity jumped from 23.4 percent in 2011 to 30.8 percent in 2014, higher than any other state or territory in Australia.
In East Gippsland, the problem is magnified. Kids living in regional areas have an increased risk of being overweight or obese.
Which is why BRHS has joined an East Gippsland Healthy Eating and Active Living Partnership effort to creation action ideas to prevent local children being overweight and obese.
We’re hosting a workshop on Monday, May 27, to explore the causes and factors of childhood overweight and obesity across East Gippsland, and we want you to come along and get involved.
Where: Bairnsdale Regional Health Service’s Ross St. Campus – 58 Ross Street, Bairnsdale.
Date: Monday, May 27.
Time: 12 to 3 p.m.
Free lunch provided.
