Inspired By a Stay On Flanagan Ward, Clifton Waters Fundraising Campaign Reaches Its Goal

Darrel Brew could see a need, and he was determined to do something about it.

When his wife was a patient at BRHS not long ago, one simple but important piece of equipment made a huge difference to her rehabilitation on the Flanagan Ward – a Sara Stedy.

The Sara Stedy is a “standing chair” of sorts that provides support and mobility to patients that are undergoing rehab or just need some help.

Darrel’s wife found the Sara Stedy very helpful during her stay on the Flanagan Ward. But, as Darrel noted, the Flanagan Ward only had one, meaning not all patients were able to access it.

That set the Brews into motion. When they returned to their home at Clifton Waters Retirement Village in Wy Yung, they instigated an ambitious fundraising campaign – to buy another Sara Stedy for Flanagan Ward.

Several months, and a number of raffles, stalls and even a fair, later, and that Sara Stedy has been purchased and delivered.

BRHS Care Coordination and Subacute Inpatient Manager Suzanne McArthur went out to Clifton Waters on Tuesday to thank the residents personally, for their hard work, generosity and commitment to the hospital.

“It makes a huge difference,” Suzanne said. “Generous donations like this make a real impact on the ward and to the patients. We are enormously grateful for such a thoughtful contribution.”
