In June 2004, BRHS implemented a new Private Patient initiative to support people with Private Health Insurance to use their insurance when they are an inpatient at BRHS.
The BRHS Private Patient Initiative will guarantee that Private Patients will have ‘No out of Pocket Medical expenses’, (please note, some exclusions apply) and BRHS will process the Private inpatients accounts. BRHS will send the accounts to Medicare and their Health Insurance funds on the patient’s behalf.
Do you have private health insurance?
Before you are admitted to hospital you will be required to make a decision regarding your patient status. That is, you will be classified as either a private or public patient.
Did you know that you could elect to be a private patient at BRHS?
Patients with private health insurance have the choice to be treated as either a public or private patient.
What are the benefits of using your private health insurance?
Our guarantee to you…
You will have NO out of pocket medical expenses.
You will not receive any bills. If you do receive medical bills that relate to your Hospital inpatient stay, forward them on to the Hospital to process.
Your ambulance costs will be covered if you are transferred from BRHS to another public hospital.
Are there any exclusions?
Yes. These are dental, IVF, renal dialysis, ophthalmology and any pre arranged doctor patient arrangements. Admission staff can provide specific details during the admission process about electing to be private patient.
Why should you elect to be a private patient at BRHS?
BRHS has treated thousands of patients and most members of our community feel a very strong connection and devotion towards us.
By using your private health insurance you are helping BRHS to maintain facilities, buy new equipment, recruit more staff and, if possible, to extend our services.
Do privately insured patients receive better care?
All patients receive the same high level of care whether they are private or public patients. Will you be allocated a private room?
BRHS does not have any private rooms. Single room occupancy is assessed and prioritised according to clinical need.
Are there any complimentary services for private patients?
Yes. Incidents such as TV hire for example is complimentary, however newspapers are not.
